the photoelectric effect & the other tragedies of the universe

Liam Strong | Poetry

After Fading Star (1884) by Witold Pruszkowski

some physic / -ists theorize entanglement / as a pathway toward hidden /

variables / the likes / of which not un / -like you &

i / it’s not billiards / it’s darts / yeah the aim / precision the size / of a diode / the meaning

of what’s between / each inaccuracy / is just / inaccuracy / consider how

hydrogen wave / functions predict bright / -ness / the inexact / location our tungsten

bolts might / land / there’s the potential / barrier that / a slight

breeze or exhale / messed up your / shot but / i argue that / your electrons didn’t /

have the energy / to reach more / than finite solutions / the highest you can

score is 180 / a reversal / a hyperbolic ton / a retreat / from a falling /

star / consider the bolide / a meteoroid flourishing / upon collision

with the atmosphere / forsaken orphan / of an oyster / we don’t celebrate

our losses / with chalices / of shorn fire / look / i’m not at /

the center again / you have a chance / i know your / forehead sheens with /

particles of sodium / which means / the correspondence /

principle is off / kilter / our game / doesn’t apply / to Schrӧdinger or Bohr /

our game / a conquest / of the wrist / the small space / where

you don’t exist / & i don’t / but the unknowable / bell slope / of probability

where your / sober arrow / passes invariably /

through the flesh / of the century / plant / the board / what constitutes a

scientific discovery / the body we forget / the one we want /

skewered down / to the subatomic / it’s what i always / hoped / not the

align / -ment of astral light / but the feeling / of something

i can’t / or just won’t / describe / because it doesn’t / matter when you’ve

got your ending / because it looks like / you got your wish
